I grew up in Montreal and, after graduating from university, lived in Whitehorse, Yukon for four years. After returning to Montreal in 1977, I spent six years as a reporter for The Canadian Press. As a freelance writer, I tackled subjects ranging from science and health to the aviation industry. My articles appeared in numerous magazines, including Canadian Geographic, and I have written more than 10 non-fiction books for children. The St. Lawrence River: History, Highway and Habitat was published in 2006.
My interest in genealogy was sparked during a 2008 trip to Scotland, and I started blogging five years later. In addition to Writing Up the Ancestors, I also contribute regularly to the collaborative blog Genealogy Ensemble.
In 2021, I pulled together the research about my father’s family and published Reinventing Themselves: A History of the Hamilton and Forrester Families, available in softcover or as an e-book at https://store.bouquinbec.ca.
